The Group operates in the 3D printing market via two major divisions: the Systems Division, which is in charge of the design and marketing of machines and associated materials as well as the distribution of 3D software; the Products Division, which is in charge of the design and manufacture of customer-specified parts.

The 3D Printing Division generated revenue of €60.9 million in 2018, around 21 % of GROUPE GORGÉ’s overall revenue.

Systems Division

The Group manufactures and sells different types of 3D printers together with the associated materials. This complementary offer establishes it as a major player in the 3D industry.

3D printers:

The Group is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of 3D printers. The company makes three types of 3D printing systems:

  • plastic DLP® MOVINGLight®: a line designed for the production of very detailed prototypes. This range is intended for industrial applications such as dental models and surgical guides, injection and blow moulding, thermoforming models, insole models and jewellery design;
  • ceramic DLP® MOVINGLight®: a product line using proprietary DLP® MOVINGLight® technology to produce ceramic parts on an industrial scale. The line was designed to produce ceramic parts for biomedical applications, such as bone substitutes, and R&D;
  • plastic Laser Sintering: a selective laser sintering range. It is the result of the acquisition of NORGE SYSTEMS, PRODWAYS Technologies’ in-house R&D, and a technology partnership with FARSOON Technologies. It was designed for industrial rapid prototyping and mass production. The technology is designed for a wide range of sectors, including aerospace, automotive, healthcare, design and architecture, consumer products, education and research.

Associated materials:

The Group offers a range of hybrid and composite materials in the form of liquid resins and polymer powders with a high ceramic, metal, fibre or nanoparticle content. The materials are designed to be very high-performance and provide distinctive characteristics in terms of mechanical properties (strength and elasticity), physical and aesthetic properties (colour and transparency), and stability over time (extended ageing). These materials can be used with the Group’s printers as well as with those of other manufacturers.

The 3D printing materials produced by the Group are mainly used in cosmetic and remedial dentistry, hearing aids, jewellery, prototyping and aviation.

Products Division

With its Products Division, the Group designs and sells 3D printed parts through its INITIAL subsidiary and through specialist firms operating in niche markets, such as CRISTAL and ScientiFeet. These sales are mainly generated in the dental and aerospace sectors.

INITIAL, manufacturer of 3D printed parts

Acquired by PRODWAYS GROUP in March 2015, INITIAL is the French market leader in the design and production of additive manufacturing and thermoplastic injection parts.

With 25 years of experience, INITIAL offers a wide range of solutions for industrial and professional parts that are or will be transformed by 3D printing, particularly for dentistry, medical, aerospace, luxury goods, casting, tooling and prototyping.

Based in Annecy, INITIAL operates 32 printing systems including 22 plastics printers and 10 metal printers, representing all the technology available on the market. The company produces 600,000 parts per year.

CRISTAL is an in-house dental laboratory, which markets PRODWAYS GROUP applications to the dental sector

PRODWAYS GROUP set up CRISTAL in June 2016 to expedite the development of 3D printing applications in dentistry. CRISTAL offers dentists a comprehensive range of dental devices, including models, surgical guides, splints and impression trays.

PRODWAYS GROUP is keen to transform CRISTAL into a centre of excellence, demonstrating the advantages of 3D printing in the dental sector.

CRISTAL is currently conducting research in four to five areas linked to 3D printing which could have a significant impact on dentistry.

ScientiFeet, an in-house start-up aiming to revolutionise the orthotic insoles market

PRODWAYS GROUP launched ScientiFeet in March 2016 in a bid to transform the orthotic insoles industry.

The manufacturing process for a 3D insole consists of four separate stages: a scan of the patient’s foot, virtualisation of the impression, 3D modelling, printing and delivery of the finished insole.

The insoles are 3D printed by INITIAL using SLS® technology, before being delivered to the podiatrist who then pass them on to the patients.
