EPRs
We supply all the
radiation shielding systems
to the EPR in Flamanville
An EPR (third-generation power station) requires more than 1000 high-performance radiation barriers (neutron, biological, watertight / air-tight, firewall), which adhere to the strict standards of the nuclear safety authority. (NSA standards**).
Today, Groupe Gorgé, through its subsidiary NucléAction, supplies the first French EPR in Flamanville with all their required radiation shielding systems. The construction of this EPR marked a decisive stage in preparing to replace EDF nuclear power stations, the first of which could cease to function by 2020. Commissioned to open in 2012, it will incorporate the first of a new generation of high-performance nuclear reactors with further increased safety levels.
Today, in France and in several countries worldwide, the current installations of nuclear reactors have reached maturity. Across the globe, the replacement of the current installations by advanced third-generation reactors is either under consideration or already underway. In addition to the French EPR in Flamanville, there are sites under development in Olkiluoto (Finland) and Taishan (China); projects are also under consideration in the UK and the US.
* EPR (European Pressurized Reactor) was renamed US-EPR (United States Evolutionary Power Reactor) in America.
